This Floridian gallinule looks similar to its Californian cousin, the Common Gallinule, but more colorful. On a recent visit to Florida, I asked my wife to show me a place where I can find purple gallinules. She took me to a public park surrounded by homes and sure enough, there were purple gallinules feeding with the common white ibis. I assumed they would behave similar to the more secretive rail but they were actually pretty easy to find.
